Abandoned Skyscrapers and High Rise Buildings

It’s more difficult to find abandoned skyscraper buildings, and even telecom. towers in this kind of status. This is the sort of structures are the objetive of this post, order by height.


The highest abandoned one is Ryugyong Hotel located in Pyongyand tha main city in North Corea.

The intrenation commercial blocking and the low quality of its materials were the main reasons to stop its finishing and use. The main problem is the quality of its concrete structures that are secureless for this kind of building. Its height is aproximatly of 330 meters.

The next in this particular ranking is a telecom. tower never completed. It’s located in the russian city of Yekaterinburg. It was planned to have 400 meters, but the deep economicsl crisis stopped its finishing. Currently a 220 meter column raises from the floor without a particular use.

Detroit has its owned record in abandoned buildings. The car industry crisis, created a great number of abandoned buildings and lots of people and companies should leave this city. In Detroit is cheapear buying a house than a car ( it’s the typical rumour , but ..who knows… )

This exodus affected complete working people neighborghoods and offices buildings ( old ones generally ) in the center of the city.

The biggest one is the Book Tower ,built in 1926. It has 38 floors and 145 height meters.

The fourth position in this list is for other building in Detroit, Broderick Tower, built in the 20’s and with a height of 113 meters.

The idea of a convert this kind of spaces in big Lofts has been thought, but the low property demand in this city is a big problem for this project.

The “Wiezowiec Naczelna Organizacja Techniczna”, located in the polish city of Cracovia, wasn’t really completly finished due to economical reasons. In 1981, the building works were stopped, leaving an unfinished structure, of 91 meters and 24 floors. This thing made that the people in the city called this project “Szkieletor”

The years has passed and some investors have been interested in this structure recovering, but it’s difficult legal status, and the big damages, have disheartened to this idea.

Wiezowiec Naczelna Organizacja Techniczna Cracovia

Piraeus Tower , in the greek capital harbour, was abandoned thanks to structural problems, due to important building errors. With its 84 meters, its the highest building in Piraeus zone, one the most important harbours for sea cruises in the Mediterranean sea.
