The Subway Light Project / Natural lighting in the undergroud

If there is something wrong in the underground transport services (tube and suburban trains) is that their stations doesn´t have any sun light.

Caroline Pham, an estudent from the Parson New School for Design, from New York, propose the use for those stations of a lighting system fully sustainable, consisting in catch the sun light from outside and its transmission to inside using optic fiber. The proposal is named “The Subway Light Project”.

The proposal of Caroline includes as well the convenience of customize each one of the light spaces with this form using differents designs of artistic expression, with the aim of contribute diversity and content to some spaces in wich the people of the cities with public transport, at the end, spend a lot of time. According to the designer, who has been for some time stuying the impact from the urban elements in the people, the mix of sun light and the art in the stations can have a very positive effect in the population mood.
