Bicentenario Tower, Mexico DF / Rem Koolhaas (OMA)
The City of Mexico will have in 2010 a new skyscraper designed by the Duthcman Rem Koolhas, an OMA partner. This building will have a height of 300 meters and its inauguration will be held in coincidence with the second centenary of the beginning of Mexico independence war in September 1810.

The building will have a skylight that will go through all the floors, allowing the way of natural light.
The building floors widen from the base up, in the base it will be 40 meters wide, reaching their maximum at the height of 73 meters (60 meters wide), from which the tower narrows again until 40 meters in width at the crowing point.

Several public spaces will be located In the widest area of the building, like a viewpoint, a gymnasium and a convention center.
According to the architect, the project is inspired by the Sun Pyramid, located in the archaeological complex of Teotihuacán, about 50 kilometers northeast away from the City of Mexico.

The building will be located in Hills of Chapultepec, next to the Paseo de la Reforma, an area in which there are already other high and modern buildings. It will require an investment of 600 million dollars and will be finished, according to forecasts, in September 2010.
The tower, however, has generated some controversies, and there are even people that that say it cannot be constructed with the present regulation. Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes affirms some of the buildings to be demolished in order to release the plot are protected.

OMA has counted with the collaboration of the local architects Fernando Romero and Dolores Robles-Martinez, partners of Laboratory of Architecture studio.
It will have a total surface of 393,885 m2, 165,000 of them dedicated to offices, and the rest to technical, commercial or another kind of uses.
With this project Mexico will haven a new and spectacular skyscraper that will displace Torre Mayor as the higher building in the country.
