Height Jinx

Category: Others

Almost 2 years ago I published an article titled “The floors raise and the share prices lower”, which related the construction of “record” buildings to economic crisis within its region. I reproduce its content here…

There is a peculiar theory that relates the construction of skyscrapers to some of the important crisis in history.

It is something that I had never stopped to think, but it is really true. Until the construction of the Eiffel tower the height record was held by religious constructions… from 1889 on this fact changed and the following coincidences occurred:

1889 Eiffel Tower - Recession in France, Germany and England.
1893 First American skyscrapers - Great American Depression of 1893.
1929 Beginning of works of Empire Estate and Chrysler Buildings - Depression of 1929.
1972/1974 Twin Towers and Sears Tower - Petroleum Crisis.
1998 Petronas Towers - Asian Tigers Crisis.

It seems at the moment that Taipei 101 has escaped from the jinx, but… What about Burj Dubai? Will its related crisis be proportional to its size? Will be Madrid Arena an indicator nationwide? I am scared.

Recently, as you have read in this blog, Burj Dubai has surpassed Taipei 101 height. Will it will be the signal for the beginning of a great economic recession at world-wide level?

And about CTBA… just when it is about a year to the finalization of the construction of all of them, it is said in certain circles that a possible real estate crisis in Spain could also draw the rest of the national economy.

This kind of mysterious coincidences are usually a nonsense, but… will the nonsense go on making coincide records in height and crisis?
