New terminal at Carrasco Airport, Montevideo (Uruguay) / Rafael Viñoly
The construction of the brand new terminal (on which both the airport and the port will be installed) started a few months ago in the capital city of Uruguay, Montevideo.

The building, which was designed by Rafael Viñoly, will have 30,000 square metres, twice as much as the current building. It will consist of 2 levels along with foumr fingers.

The new terminal will be located 800 metres away from the existing one, 20km east of Montevideo.

The old terminal is made up of a building that will be redesigned and made into a congress/conference venue. It will also be used for holding international events, which political authorities and businessmen from Mercosur are expeted to attend. The license holder finished the renewal of the buoying (abalizamiento) of the different tracks/courts/rings (depende) and the size of the main court/track/ring was increased from 2,700 to 3,300 metres long.

Work on the new terminal is expected to be finished by late 2008. Puerta del Sur Ltd will have the concession of the airport until 2023.
