Torre Mayor, Mexico DF / Zeidler Roberts Partnership

Torre Mayor is the highest building in Mexico City, and in the whole Latin America. It is a 55 storey skyscraper, with 225m in height. It was built between 1999 and 2003.

The main peculiarity of the building is its resistance to seismic movements. It is equipped with 98 dumpers, designed to reduce the structural efforts during an earthquake.

Due to the conditions of the ground in Mexico City, the plot had to be prepared with the placement of 252 concrete columns, each one with 60m in depth, laying more securely the land, avoiding the marshy zones.

The building is ready to support an 8.5 earthquake (in the Richter scale). At the moment it has supported without any damage a 7.6 one in 2003, and a 6.3 one in april, 2007.
